The 2018 Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award is awarded to Loes van Dam for the poster/PICO entitled:

Mapping mantle complexity in 4-D geodynamical models of circulation beneath migrating mid-ocean ridges (van Dam, L; Kincaid, C. R.; Pockalny, R. A.; Sylvia, R. T.)

Loes van Dam is a Master’s/PhD student at the Graduate School of Oceanography of the University of Rhode Island in the USA. She is working with Dr. Chris Kincaid on studying fluid dynamics in the Earth’s mantle, specifically beneath mid-ocean ridges. Using a combination of analogue and numerical models coupled with real world observations, their findings shed light on the three-dimensional nature of these systems and emphasize the need for more detailed and higher resolution models. In her free time, she likes to bake bread (chemistry), grow tomatoes (biology), and kayak (more fluid dynamics).
