The 2023 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Bartosz Puzio for the poster/PICO entitled:

Estimation of missing third-law standard entropy of apatites using the optimized Volume-based Thermodynamics (Puzio, B.; Manecki, M.)

Bartosz Puzio is a PhD student at the Department of Mineralogy, Petrography and Geochemistry at AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Poland, working under the supervision of Maciej Manecki. Bartosz as a member of Lead Apatites Research Group (LARG) is trying to expand the naturally occurring apatite supergroup minerals with new isostructural synthetic analogs of unique environmental properties. His recent research aims to understand the variation of thermodynamic state functions within the apatites.

His contribution to EGU General Assembly 2023 focuses on proposing a new prediction approach for standard entropy values of selected apatite supergroup endmembers. As a substantial number of entropy data is still unknown Bartosz helps to fill the gaps in existing thermodynamic databases. These new data serve geochemists as input for modeling environmental processes and open new pathways in terms of exploration apatite-like materials.
