EGU Vice-President Günter Blöschl awarded AGU’s Robert E. Horton Medal 24 July 2015 Günter Blöschl, Chair of Hydrology and Water Resources Management at the Vienna University of Technology and former EGU President (currently EGU Vice-President), has been awarded the Robert E. Horton Medal of the American Geophysical Union. This medal is given annually to one honoree in recognition for “outstanding contributions to hydrology.” Read more

Until 18 September you can suggest new sessions with conveners and description, or you can propose modifications to current ones. Young Scientists renamed Early Career Scientists 6 July 2015 Following feedback from the 2014 young scientists survey, supported by the findings of the Young Scientist Forum at the EGU General Assembly 2014, the EGU Council has decided to replace the term Young Scientist (YS) by Early Career Scientist (ECS). Biogeosciences most cited articles in 2014 2 July 2015 The chief editors of Biogeosciences, an EGU open access journal, have put together a top-10 list of articles published in 2012 and 2013, which were the most cited ones in 2014 according to Web of Science. These papers contributed most to BG’s 2014 Impact Factor. Read more

Earth Surface Dynamics indexed in Web of Science 18 June 2015 The EGU open access journal Earth Surface Dynamics (ESurf) has been accepted by Thomson Reuters to be indexed and abstracted in the Science Citation Index Expanded, the Journal Citation Reports, and Current Contents/Physical Chemical and Earth Sciences. Obituary: Rolf Meissner (1925–2014) 8 June 2015 Rolf Meissner, president of the European Geophysical Society (a predecessor of the EGU) from 1985 to 1987, passed away on 4 June 2014, shortly before his 89th birthday. Read more
Geoscience Ahead: joint agreement between EGU, AGU, AOGS and JpGU 3 June 2015 The American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Asia-Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), the European Geosciences Union (EGU), and the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) meet in May to exchange views and to discuss future directions and collaborations. Introducing the new EGU young scientist representatives at Union level 14 April 2015 Following a two-year term, Sam Illingworth steps down as Programme Committee Representative at this year’s General Assembly. Wouter Berghuijs, from the Hydrology Division, and Lena Noack, from Planetary Sciences, have been nominated by the young scientist division representatives to replace Sam. Wouter will serve as Head Representative within the next year, with Lena taking the role of Deputy Head Representative. She will become Head Representative the following year. Read more
