Before EGU , Gillian worked in the Communications team at a multinational pharmaceutical company, and prior to that, in the healthcare team of a global public relations agency, and a reputed peer-reviewed medical journal. Feb 2022 – Dec 2022 Berit Schwichtenberg Berit joined the EGU office in early 2022 as the first Editorial Manager, supporting the work of our 19 Open Access journals, our preprint server ( EGU sphere) and the Publications Committee. As the first person to hold this position, she has been actively involved in shaping and directing the tasks of her new role.

Montanari has served the hydrological community in many ways, including as President of the EGU Hydrological Sciences Division (2008-2011), EGU Awards Committee Chair (2009-2016), Editor-in-Chief of WRR (2013-2017), and as the intellectual cornerstone of the Panta Rhei scientific decade of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (2013-2022). Given his service to the community and impact on water resources engineering, Montanari is a deserving recipient of the 2018 Henry Darcy Medal.

Peter brings a wealth of expertise to this role, having previously served as Division President of the EGU Geomorphology Division (2015-2019) and Programme Committee chair (2020-2022). Peter is affiliated with the University of Potsdam in Germany, where his research focuses on tectonic and climatic influences on topographic development and erosion in mountainous areas.

All activities will be co-ordinated by the EGU’s Climate Hazard and Risk Task Force. EGU’s Policy Priority Area 2022-2024, Biodiversity : selected by the EGU’s Science for Policy Working Group and approved by the EGU Council, the EGU’s Policy Priority Area will allow EGU to provide specific scientific information to policymakers where it is most needed. All activities will be co-ordinated by the EGU’s Biodiversity Task Force.

In recognition of his contributions, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has appointed him as the chair of the International Network on Soil Pollution (INSOP) established in 2022 as an urgent response to scale-up global efforts to prevent contamination of arable soils by chemicals, fertilisers and plastics, with the goal of zero pollution.
