The course is a natural development of the initiatives done in the past two years within the Union (Union symposium in 2022, Great Debate and Short course in 2023) and the EGU statement on the inclusion of global research. The Education Committee will develop the course with the collaboration of the EDI committee and some external experts.

Home / News & press / Press releases / One sea to many oceans: First of its kind study on oxygen flow and its role in sustaining life globally
28 January 2022 MUNICH — The Labrador Sea between Canada and Greenland is often referred to as a ‘lung of the deep ocean’ because it is one of only a handful of locations worldwide where oxygen from the atmosphere can enter the deepest layers of the ocean. The ability to sustain animal life in the deep ocean depends directly on this localized ‘deep breathing’.
Home / News & press / Press releases / The first complete picture of Arctic sea ice freeze-thaw cycle highlights sea ice response to climate change
5 December 2022 MUNICH – Years of research show that climate change signals are amplified in the Arctic, and that sea ice in this region is sensitive to increases in Arctic warming. Sea ice greatly modifies the exchanges of heat, momentum and mass between the atmosphere and the ocean.
Home / News & press / Press releases / Snow cover in the Alps will halve without climate action – emissions cuts can save 80% of snow days
22 June 2022 MUNICH – The number of snow cover days in the Alps could halve by the end of the century due to higher temperatures if greenhouse gas emissions remain high, having serious impacts on water availability, nature, and ski resorts, according to new research published today in the European Geosciences Union journal Hydrology and Earth Sciences .
