Geoscience Ahead: joint agreement between EGU, AGU, AOGS and JpGU 3 June 2015 The American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Asia-Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), the European Geosciences Union (EGU), and the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) meet in May to exchange views and to discuss future directions and collaborations. Introducing the new EGU young scientist representatives at Union level 14 April 2015 Following a two-year term, Sam Illingworth steps down as Programme Committee Representative at this year’s General Assembly. Wouter Berghuijs, from the Hydrology Division, and Lena Noack, from Planetary Sciences, have been nominated by the young scientist division representatives to replace Sam. Wouter will serve as Head Representative within the next year, with Lena taking the role of Deputy Head Representative. She will become Head Representative the following year. Read more

10th EGU Alexander von Humboldt International Conference 9 March 2015 The 2015 Alexander von Humboldt conference will be joined with the EGU Leonardo Conference Series and will focus on Water-Food-Energy River and Society in the Tropics. It is taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 18–20 November. The deadline for abstract submission is 13 July. The conference will also have an associated Geosciences Information for Teachers (GIFT) workshop, open to local teachers and educators. Read more

Imaggeo Photo Competition 27 January 2015 The sixth annual EGU photo competition opens on 1 February. Up until 1 March, every participant pre-registered for the General Assembly can submit up three original photos and one moving image on any broad theme related to the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. New edition of GeoQ out now! 1 December 2014 The latest, and final, issue of the EGU quarterly newsletter GeoQ is dedicated to The Anthropocene. It includes a report from the Anthropocene Working Group, the International Commission on Stratigraphy body in charge of examining whether humans have impacted the Earth significantly enough to merit defining a new geological epoch, an era of humanity’s own making. This issue also features a contribution from the EGU President about new thinking, data and models for doing geosciences in the Anthropocene. Read more

EGU2015: Applying for financial support to attend the General Assembly 29 October 2014 A limited amount of the overall budget of the EGU General Assembly is reserved to assist young scientists and established scientists from low and middle income countries who wish to present their work at the meeting.
