Until 8 September you can suggest new sessions with conveners and description, or you can propose modifications to current ones. Please note that, for the first time this year, the 8 September deadline also applies to short courses and townhall meetings. The next EGU General Assembly is taking place in Vienna, Austria on 8–13 April 2018. Read more

EGU Publications Committee Chair Hubert H.G. Savenije honoured by AGU 20 July 2017 Hubert H.G. Savenije, Professor of Hydrology at the Delft University of Technology and the Chair of the EGU Publications Committee, has been named as the recipient of the International Award of the American Geophysical Union. This award is given annually to one honoree in recognition “for making an outstanding contribution to furthering the Earth and space sciences and using science for the benefit of society in developing nations.” Read more

Position statement: EGU advocates the teaching of evolution 6 July 2017 The European Geosciences Union (EGU) strongly supports the teaching of evolution in schools and other educational fora. Evolution, a fundamental concept in biology and the Earth sciences, is the only theory supported by scientific evidence to describe how life on Earth has evolved. Read more
EGU journals: updated publication policy and revision of editors’, referees’, and authors’ obligations 3 July 2017 In response to the detection of a case of scientific malpractice by a topical editor of two of its journals (SOIL and Solid Earth), EGU and Copernicus Publications have revised the guidelines for authors, editors and reviewers. The journals now also have an updated publication policy. Read more

Apply for EGU financial support for training schools 7 June 2017 Do you need support from the EGU to organise a training school in the Earth, planetary or space sciences? Up until 15 August 2017, we welcome proposals for training schools scheduled for 2018. Please note this will be the only call for proposals for EGU co-sponsored meetings, and that we are only accepting funding applications relating to training schools. Read more

First AOGS–EGU Joint Conference: New Dimensions for Natural Hazards in Asia 22 May 2017 The first AOGS-EGU joint conference will take place from 4 to 8 February 2018 in the Philippines. It will bring together students, early career and established scientists from all areas of the globe to discuss current advances in knowledge and new perspectives relevant to natural hazards in the Asian region. The deadline for abstract submission is 31 August. Read more
